Combined Solar PV & Battery Storage Course

Combined 5-day renewable energy course covering both Solar PV and Electrical Energy Storage Systems.

BPEC / City & Guilds accredited

Overview

The course aims to provide the knowledge and skills to be able to design, install, inspect & test and maintain a Solar Photovoltaic and EESS system. The course comprises both theory and practical elements. This qualification is aligned with the MCS requirements and is designed as CPD for qualified electricians to be able to install and maintain small solar PV systems. By completing this qualification, electricians can enhance their expertise in regard to solar PV infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring safe and efficient installations. Candidates will be expected to carry out the electrical testing and commissioning required for the system and be introduced to a simulated roof mounting system. Assessments include practical, written assignments and online exam. (Online exam: City & Guilds only). The course does not cover the work involved with carrying out structural surveys, requirements for scaffolding, calculations relating to structural strength of roofing systems, brackets and fixings, weather sealing or wind loads. Upon successful completion of the course candidates will receive a BPEC or City and Guilds (2922 & 2923) certificate which is one element for membership of a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Candidates are provided with a course book (when completing the BPEC course) and should also hold a copy of the latest edition of the IET Code of Practice for Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems and Energy Storage for Power Systems which can be purchased in advance from our centre if we have them in stock. For the BPEC course: Candidates are required to bring two passport style photographs of themselves which will be used on the associated membership cards produced. Candidates must also bring safety work boots and wear suitable clothing to access our roof model.

Seven Hills Solar

There's only so much you can learn in three days in our simulated environment — as with all electrical work, the hard bit is doing it professionally. We're partnered with Seven Hills Solar , who are committed to working with us to ensure operatives in this sector carry out work to the highest standard.

Candidates successfully completing our training can enjoy paid sub-contractual work experience with Jon Cowdrill from Seven Hills — no need for additional installation training on simulated environments. You'll work alongside an experienced installer and see first-hand how to tackle a range of installation types, from concrete tiles to slate, ground-mounted to commercial metal roofs.

Seven Hills offer paid work experience with opportunities you can build on over time — and, moving forward, hopefully enjoy future working partnerships.

Please note: you must agree the conditions of any sub-contractual work, including insurance arrangements and CIS registration.
